Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door – How to Get to Twilight Town

The much-anticipated remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is here, and much like the Gamecube original, the game is bursting with puzzles, secrets, and some quirky mechanics that new players may find slightly perplexing. Don’t worry though, we’re here to cut The Thousand-Year Door’s more confusing aspects down to size.

In order to kick off Chapter 4 of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, you’ll need to find a way to get to the creepy Twilight Town, which requires a few steps, including figuring out one of the more obtuse secrets in the game. But hey, don’t worry, we have you covered…

According to good ol' Professor Frankly, the pipe to Twilight Town is somewhere under Rogueport’s West Side.

But how do you get beneath the west side? The key is to slip through the cracks in this grate.

You’ll drop down to the underground. Now, use the Yoshi kid to hover jump over the gap to the left, then go through the door.

You’ll find a weird brown pipe, which you can’t get through. Hmmm!

Head back to Professor Frankly and talk to him about it. He’ll tell you about seeing somebody from Twilight Town in the area. The key is this seemingly innocuous wall next to Merlon’s shop. There’s actually an optical illusion here which hides a secret back alley. Just walk into the middle of the wall, then go to the right or left to slip through.

You’ll find the Twilight Town resident Darkly in the back alley. Talk to him and he’ll set you up so you can get through the pipe to his hometown. Head back to that weird brown pipe and you can now pass through.
