Unofficial The Legend of Zelda NES Remake Within Unreal Engine 5 Receives 20 Minutes of Beta Footage

An artist is working on an unofficial The Legend of Zelda NES remake within Unreal Engine 5.

YouTuber and digital artist 'Lloyd Empty' is working on his own fan remake of the original The Legend of Zelda within Epic's most recent gaming engine, and although this is a work-in-progress, this early footage shows promise. The art style is comparable with 2019's Link's Awakening Remake for the Nintendo Switch, and in all honesty, it looks quite great.

According to the French artist, in order to create this remake, he used Blender, Gimp, and FMOD (and of course, Unreal Engine). Those who've played the original NES game from 1986 will surely recognize the footage.

We've included the new gameplay footage of this The Legend of Zelda NES fan remake below. Be sure to check it out.

Two years ago, the artist already released footage of a playable beta, but as far as we know, this beta hasn't been released publicly. Whether a full release will ever be made available for the public is unclear.

Released in 1986 for the original NES, The Legend of Zelda is considered as one of the most influential games ever created. The game was ported to various other Nintendo platforms and is currently available on the Nintendo Switch as part of Nintendo Switch Online. Although we don't have exact numbers, the first entry in the Zelda series has sold well over 6 million copies.

In case you're into these Unreal Engine-remakes of Zelda entries, be sure to check out this UE5 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which looks astonishing in Epic's engine complete with water physics and more.
