Over a Decade Later, Skyrim Fans Are Still Wishing One Weapon Type Was in the Game

More than a decade after the launch of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, fans are lamenting the lack of spears as an available weapon type within the RPG. The beloved Bethesda game offers a plethora of different ways for players to personalize their character, containing a wide breadth of weapons and spells for players to choose from. Players can specialize in any of Skyrim's five Schools of Magic, as well as optimizing towards using one-handed or two-handed weapons. However, some fans feel the RPG left a perfect weapon type out of the game.

Between Skyrim's different kinds of one-handed, two-handed, and archery weapons, players have plenty of options to properly outfit their character. The user noted the heavy Nordic inspiration within Skyrim's world, referring to it as «the viking game» with spears being a common weapon of choice for vikings. Fans in the post's replies largely agreed with the sentiment while also expressing that Skyrim shows a general lack of polearm weapons within the RPG. Spears were previously included as a weapon within the Elder Scrolls franchise, last available for players in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind.

The lack of spears in Skyrim saw many fans reflecting on changes made to the franchise throughout its recent entries. One fan mentioned a Game Jam shared from Skyrim's development cycle where one developer had created fully functioning spears within Skyrim ahead of the game's launch. Others have felt that Bethesda has «dumbed down» the series in its modern entries,
