One Minor BG3 Act 2 Character Reveals The Cause Of Durge's Memory Loss

However, there's one Origin character that requires more work to fill in their background thanks to a case of amnesia – the Dark Urge.

If the Dark Urge is chosen as the main character, it leads to a unique storyline that results in the feeling that this Origin was perhaps intended to be the canonical main character of . A large part of the Dark Urge's story revolves around uncovering the secrets of their past, why they have such violent urges, and what happened to cause their memory loss. And a minor character — along with a few notebooks — offers a lot of insight into the Dark Urge's complicated past.

Kressa Bonedaughter is a character in the Mind Flayer Colony of Act 2 who recognizes the Dark Urge, which leads into a conversation that wouldn't be seen otherwise. If the Dark Urge doesn't pretend to be docile, they learn that Kressa found the Dark Urge on the verge of death in the colony, and that they were already infected with a Tadpole at that point. From here, she started experimenting and researching the Tadpoles by repeatedly performing surgery on the Dark Urge, amazed by their resilience.

The dialogue alone reveals a few interesting pieces about the Dark Urge's past. Kressa's story means that the Dark Urge was ambushed while in the Mind Flayer Colony and left for dead, but survived because Kressa found them and took an interest in them for her own purposes. With the way she describes the Dark Urge's resilience and that she wasn't able to treat other infected prisoners like them without risking death, it seems that the Dark Urge was among the first to be infected with the parasite, if not the very first.
