One Canceled Star Wars Movie May Happen After All

Star Wars:Rogue Squadron's fate may not be sealed just yet. Patty Jenkins has announced she's still working on the Star Wars project, reigniting hope for the film's continuation.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was initially announced in late 2020 with a scheduled release in 2023. However, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron faced delays and eventual cancelation. Jenkins, the acclaimed film director and screenwriter, was initially selected to lead the Lucasfilm project. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts and the impact of writers' strikes, the project fell through.

During a recent episode of theTalking Pictures podcast, host Ben Mankiewicz engaged in an insightful conversation with Jenkins. The interview delved into Jenkins' illustrious career and her perspectives on navigating Hollywood as a female director. Jenkins also addressed the speculation surrounding a potential Star Wars script. Finally, she confirmed that she is actively involved in the development of Rogue Squadron, affirming, «I now owe a draft of Star Wars

Jenkins initially stepped away from the Star Wars project due to scheduling conflicts, primarily focusing on her commitment to Wonder Woman 3. However, when plans for Wonder Woman 3 fell apart, Jenkins found herself returning to Lucasfilm to finish her job. Reflecting on the sequence of events, Jenkins explained, “When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Okay, well maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,‘ so we did a deal for that to happen, started a deal. But I thought I was doing Wonder Woman 3.When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows.”
