NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 & 4090D To Be Discontinued Next Month In Preparation For Next-Gen RTX 5090 & 5090D GPUs

It looks like NVIDIA is finally prepping the discontinuation process of its flagship "Ada" GPUs, the GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4090D, ahead of next-gen launches.

NVIDIA To Discontinue GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4090D GPUs In October, Supply Shortages Expected In November Before Arrival of RTX 5090 & RTX 5090D

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU launched almost two years ago (availability in October 2022) & has retained the GPU throne throughout its lifetime. There has been no card from the competition that has tackled NVIDIA's top-of-the-line gaming solution and it looks like the champ is going to end its journey similarly.

Reports from Chinese Board Channels suggest that NVIDIA and its partners are planning to end the production of GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4090D GPUs starting next month. Although the plans have not been cemented into the ground yet, it is reported that October will mark the discontinuation of the flagship graphics cards & several retailers can expect shortages as the GPUs are still very much in demand despite their high price tags. The shortages may even lead to prices going further up.

It is also said that the discontinuation process will allow AIBs to lower their existing inventories of high-end GeForce RTX 40 "Ada" GPUs and focus on the next-gen launches which are expected to take place in the coming months. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 will replace the RTX 4090 globally while the RTX 5090D will replace the RTX 4090D in Chinese marketplaces.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 was truly the biggest performance uplift within the entire RTX 40 lineup and is also seen as the best SKU which was only somewhat changed with the arrival of the "SUPER" series which offered better value than their non-SUPER brothers.
