Must-See Resident Evil Comparison Shows Just How Far The Series Has Come

The franchise is one of the most iconic in the entire video game industry and one talented fan wants to remind the community how far the franchise has come since its humble start on the PlayStation One. While many other video game series that began on Sony's first console have been either forgotten or dormant, Capcom's survival horror games have only improved in quality over the years, bar the occasional stumble in the mid-2000s. With modern titles boasting some of the best graphics around, it's easy to forget its roots.

Posted to Reddit by user Red-Raptor3, the fan shared an image they created to illustrate the graphical improvements the franchise has experienced by posing recreated models of the «Core Five» alongside their modern counterparts.

The blocky, pixelated forms of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Claire Redfield, and Leon S. Kennedy stand in stark comparison to how they're realistically depicted in the latest CG movie. The film's character designs borrow many elements from Capcom's recent remakes of, and, all of which were lauded upon their release.

Explaining how they were able to recreate the shot from with the original characters, Red-Raptor3 wrote thatthey used a pixel effect on the image from the film before using PowerPoint to combine the edited still with models from the older games that were posed in, software that facilitates and hosts user-generated content. They also debunked claims that generative AI was used to create the picture. It's a compelling touchstone to display just how much 's visuals, and indeed graphics across the industry, have improved since the first game's release in 1996.
