MultiVersus may be returning soon, according to McDonald’s Australia

Free-to-play crossover fighting game MultiVersus may be preparing for its comeback, according to McDonald’s Australia.

As spotted and posted on X by journalist Edmond Tran, the Happy Meal page on the Australian McDonald’s website currently advertises the existing Crash Bandicoot toys.

However, at the bottom of the page is the message “coming soon… WB MultiVersus” along with a series of 12 character tins.

The tins, which each feature two characters, don’t list any newcomers, only mentioning characters who were already in the game when it shut down last year.

MultiVersus, which launched as an open beta in July 2022, is a Smash Bros-style crossover fighting game featuring characters from a variety of Warner Bros properties, including DC Comics, Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network, Game of Thrones, Tom & Jerry, Gremlins, Rick & Morty and The Iron Giant.

The MultiVersus open beta launched in July 2022 and was initially very popular, with a peak of more than 143,000 players on Steam on day one, rising to 153,433 the following day.

Part of the reason for the drop in players may have been a tepid response to the game’s Season 2 content. The game’s first season saw the release of five new characters over the course of around two months.

However, over the course of Season 2 – which ran from November 2022 until the beta’s closure in June 2023 – just one character, Marvin the Martian, was
