Housemarque’s teased Returnal announcement is a graphic novel

Housemarque and Dark Horse comics have announced Returnal: Fallen Asteria.

Returnal: Fallen Asteria is a graphic novel that will released be on October 22 in book shops and the following day in comic book stores. The graphic novel will be 88 pages long.

To celebrate the announcement, Housemaque has released an animated version of the game’s opening chapter, which you can view below.

A Returnal art book has also been announced to celebrate the game’s third anniversary. No release information has been revealed about the art book.

Returnal was released in 2021 for the PS5, and then again in 2023 for PC.

The game was met with critical praise, winning Best Game at the 2021 Bafta Game Awards.

Harry Krueger, the game’s director, left the Helsinki-based studio in November.

Housemarque has said its next game will be a new intellectual property rather than a sequel, although the title will incorporate ideas and narrative systems originally planned for Returnal.

Two months after Returnal’s release, the Finnish studio was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Speaking to GQ in 2021, Kuittinen suggested joining Sony would allow Housemarque to continue making bigger game experiences like Returnal.
