Hollow Knight: Silksong Update May Be Good News For A Release Date

A release date for may finally be on its way. News surrounding the Metroidvania's DLC-turned-sequel had been scarce for over two years after footage was shown during Xbox and Bethesda's Summer Game Fest event in 2022, showcasing its new combat style, heroine, and more years after its initial announcement back in 2019. This even prompted its developers, Team Cherry, to reassure fans that the game was still in production after delays and an already lengthy development. Recently, things seem to be picking up speed, however, as a Microsoft Store page appeared for the game, and now, yet another country has rated the game.

The Australian Classification Board and Branch has rated PG for "", which matches its predecessor's rating, albeit without the "" mentioned in 's description. This follows on from the United States' ESRB rating of 10+ earlier this month, which makes sense considering the game's art style, creatures, and combat.

These age ratings are an extremely promising sign, as it indicates that Team Cherry completed, or at least has it at a full enough state where these boards can fairly review and certificate it. With film certifications, these are normally locked in place 4 weeks before a film's release on average, prior to the pre-sale for tickets.

With games, however, this can be months before a title's release, as is the case with a game like, which is already rated — its certifications appear on its latest trailer and the pre-order pages — but releases at the end of August. Considering how little concrete news there was surrounding before this month, any news feels like good news.

In a best-case scenario, the game releases in the coming month or so, and in the worst-case scenario, at least players know is likely to be out sometime this year. Hopefully, an official announcement — and maybe new footage — will come from Team Cherry soon, and players will be able to finally see what Hornet's story has in store after five years of waiting.
