Helldivers 2 Recaps the Story So Far, Pre-Load Now Live

Arrowhead Game Studios is recapping the Helldivers series story so far with a new video in the form of an amusing recruitment ad.

The events of Helldivers 2 pick up 100 years after the original game, with Super Earth victorious in its Galactic War against the bug-like Terminids, baby-stealing Cyborgs, and Illuminates. Following the war, the titular (and heroic) Helldivers were dismissed.

During the conflict, Super Earth ‘liberated’ faster-than-light travel technology from its Illuminate foes, only to  learn that the technology must be powered by a rare resource that happens to be in abundance in decaying Terminid bodies. Naturally, Super Earth began to farm Terminids. Nothing could go wrong with that, right?

Things went terribly, terribly wrong.

The Terminids escaped and began to infest the galaxy necessitating that the Helldivers be called up once again. With aliens run amok across the galaxy it’s up to the Helldivers to take back Super Earth’s colonies, which is exactly what you’ll be doing in Helldivers 2.

A number of other announcements came in alongside the story recap. Pre-loads are also live on the PlayStation 5 and PC, with download sizes of 25GB and 20GB, respectively.

Lastly, the developer dropped a video promoting the game’s ‘Glory for Super Earth’ livestreams, which kick off this Thursday. Players can watch their favorite streamers from across the globe ‘deliver democracy’ and earn Twitch drops, which include a special armor skin.

Helldivers 2 launches on the PlayStation 5 and PC on Thursday, February 8.
