GPD Unveils Upgraded Win Max 2 Handheld, Featuring AMD Ryzen 7 8840U APU at 15W

GPD has unveiled a revamped version of their existing GPD Win Max 2 device, now featuring AMD's Hawk Point "Ryzen 7 8840U" APU.

GPD Upgrades The Win Max 2 Handheld With AMD's Latest Ryzen 7 8840U "Hawk Point" APU, Bringing Enhanced AI Performance To Handheld PCs

AMD's Hawk Point APUs are a huge deal when it comes to increased AI performance, offering up to 16 TOPs. While the previous handheld markets were dominated by AMD's Ryzen 7040 & Ryzen Z1 APUs based on the Phoenix silicon, it seems like there has been some inclination towards Team Red's Ryzen 8040 APUs since they are pretty much compatible with existing platforms and are expected to launch next month.

In terms of specifications, the APU is pretty much similar to its Phoenix counterpart, however, the key difference lies in the inclusion of the XDNA AI engine, which makes the Ryzen 7 8840U slightly ahead in AI workloads, but in terms of gaming performance, there isn't much of a difference. Moreover, GPD has ramped up the onboard memory to a whopping 32 GB, since they want to fulfill Microsoft's 16 GB requirement along with making the device future-proof as well.

Moving on from the onboard SoC, let's talk a bit about the design, & honestly calling it a handheld won't do justice to the Win Max 2. The device comes in a hybrid design, taking elements from both a laptop and your traditional handheld, which makes it stand out in the industry. The Win Max 2 features a 10.1-inch display and with it is a half-sized keyboard attached that also
