Google’s Pixel Series May Not Have Experienced Significant Success In Various Markets, But In Japan, Its 527 Percent YoY Growth Is An Anomaly

Google continues to cover some ground with its Pixel smartphone shipments, and though its rivals are miles ahead as they ship millions of units every year, Japan is one of those regions where the advertising giant can hold its head high thanks to a 527 percent year-over-year growth. Where every other company, including Apple, suffered a decline, Google overcame all odds, according to the latest report.

Google now has a 10+ percent market share in Japan, and every other smartphone vendor witnessed a shipments decline

Japan’s overall smartphone market suffered a 10 percent shipments decline in 2023, with even Apple failing to post a healthy figure as it saw a 6 percent drop in the region. Regardless, the technology giant’s market share increased to 51.9 percent last year, compared to 49 percent in 2022. Samsung too, suffered a growth decline, with its market share being a measly 6.3 percent, resulting in a 39 percent growth decline. As for Google, it reigned over its competition, with a 527 percent year-over-year growth, towering over every other vendor.

According to data posted by IDC, Google’s market share climbed to 10.7 percent last year, whereas in 2022, the company only captured 1.5 percent of Japan’s total smartphone shipments. It is possible that with the launch of the Pixel 7a, along with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, consumers are now thrilled to see Google matching its competitors with exclusive features, though it should be noted that the company’s Tensor chips have significant room to improve.

The company is said to announce the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro later this year, and the Tensor G4 is reported to share some attributes of Samsung’s Exynos 2400, such as using Fan out Wafer Level Packaging that improves heat resistance and increasing multi-core performance.
