God of War Ragnarok mod removes PSN requirement from PC version

A mod has been released for the Steam version of God of War Ragnarok that removes the requirement to link a PSN account to play the game.

Sony‘s latest PC port, which was released this week, requires that players link an existing PSN account to their Steam account, or create a new one, in order to play.

While this has been the case for some multiplayer titles, such as the now-defunct Concord, the fact that God of War Ragnarok is an entirely single-player game means the PSN account requirement has frustrated some players.

Now, Nexusmods user iArtorias has released a mod that removes the requirement entirely, which has been downloaded thousands of times at the time of writing.

Earlier this year, Sony implemented the PSN requirement into a breakout hit Helldivers 2. This led to the game being delisted in 177 countries, because the PlayStation Network wasn’t available in those regions.

The news was met with huge backlash from players, and the game was hit with over 100,000 negative reviews on Steam in less than 48 hours.

Due to the reception, PlayStation delivered a U-turn and scrapped the requirement, saying it was “still learning what is best for PC players”.

This was promptly followed by a confirmation by Ghost of Tsushima studio Sucker Punch that the Steam version of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut didn’t need a PSN account for the single-player mode.

While players can use it for the game’s Legends online multiplayer mode, or to bring up a PlayStation overlay in-game, they can choose not to sign into a PSN account if they don’t want either of those.
