Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is out now, and it contains six excellent fighting games starring iconic comic and game characters. There is one oddball game in the collection, though: The Punisher.
One of the best things about Astro Bot is all of the cameos from PlayStation’s history that it features. Astro Bot highlights iconic franchises like God of War, Horizon, and Uncharted, as well as more obscure or dormant ones like Ape Escape, Wild Arms, and Cool Boarders. My favorite cameos are the ones that are impossible to find elsewhere on PS5. For most of the games referenced within Astro Bot, there’s a way to play them on PS5, mainly through PS Plus Premium’s classics catalog or PS3 game streaming. Some of the VIP Bots in Astro Bot that are based on characters from these games aren’t so lucky.
Fate Trigger: The Novita is a new battle royale game from Saroasis, a Chinese studio made up of developers who worked on mobile versions of games like Call of Duty and Apex Legends, and Tencent. It’s free to play and will be available on PC, consoles, and mobile.
If you’re a fan of strategy or simulation video games, this will be a great Xbox Game Pass month for you. Its biggest day-one releases — Age of Mythology: Retold, Ara: History Untold, and Frostpunk 2 — are all strategy games, while games like Expeditions: A MudRunner Game and Riders Republic are keeping things interesting on the simulation front. If you’re looking for something to play this weekend, I’m highlighting a trio of games that provide entertaining sandboxes to play around in.
September has been a roller coaster month for PlayStation fans. While Concord was a disappointing flop in August, September brought the lauded launch of Astro Bot and a solid lineup of PS Plus Essential games. We’re still waiting on September’s batch of titles, but that means this weekend is the perfect time to check out any stragglers from August’s PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra catalog drop or PS Plus Essential’s lineup that you have not played yet. That’s what I’m recommending you play this weekend.

Astro Bot is an undeniable win for PlayStation. It’s not just a celebration of the brand and many of the franchises that built it into what it is today, but it’s also a fantastic 3D platformer that uses the PS5 hardware in creative ways. As a Sony-published game spotlighting the history of the company, it’s obviously not on Xbox. In fact, I’ve seen a lot of people lamenting that Xbox does not have a lot of good platformers in the wake of Astro Bot’s well-received launch.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is $700, and that price point is already divisive. It is a high-end console cheaper than most comparable gaming PCs, but it’s still the most expensive console from one of the video game industry’s big three manufacturers. It’ll likely find its audience in tech enthusiasts who crave power, but more casual gamers may find that they have no need to upgrade.
