Freedom Planet 2 PS5 Review: Fast-Paced Fun

's exciting high-speed platforming has been available for the PC via Steam since 2022, but is now on consoles to become more accessible to a greater audience. The indie game by developer GalaxyTrail and published by XSEED Games feels much like it is paying homage to with its level design and speed. Creative and engaging heroines along with a well-developed story and voice-acted cutscenes make this a true gem among chaotic 2D platformers.

It offers additional game mechanics and difficulty settings, as well as the helpful system of equipping power-ups before entering the speedy atmosphere of timed levels. has a nostalgic feel for anyone who grew up playing on the Sega Genesis. Its 2D retro-inspired artwork and level design with loops to race through and gems to grab feel incredibly reminiscent of older entries in the genre, without going too far into outright ripping them out of those games. also adds a nod towards -style bosses with mechanical beasts and unique combat styles, which adds to the overall experience in a fluid and natural way.

The traditional narrative campaign of is told in the Adventure Mode, with four different characters that players can choose to take through the story. Other gameplay modes are available as well to keep the fun going long after the campaign ends.
