Foamstars Goes Free to Play, New 'Diamond Jam' Season Now Live

Square Enix’s Foamstars is now free to play. The four player multiplayer title can be played on Sony’s PlayStation 4 and 5 and since its now switched over to free to play it won’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription to play.

Players who purchased Foamstars before the free to play switch will receive a “Legacy Gift” from Square Enix, consisting of 12 exclusive color variant Bubble Beastie cosmetics, an exclusive Slide Board and a special “Legacy” title.

Coming in alongside the free to play switch is Diamond Jam, Foamstars’ eighth season, which runs through November 7 and adds Diamond Chips, a new token that can be earned playing the game and traded via Diamond Trade for a variety of skins, slideboards, emotes, and much more. A login bonus of Diamond Chips is available to players who login during the start of the season.

Foamstars features a mish mash of the sort of base building you might find in Fortnite and gameplay similar to Nintendo’s Splatoon. The title released earlier this year on the PS4 and PS5 and we found it just okay in our review, owing mostly due to its lack of value for the dearth of content on offer.
