Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide – How to Unlock Chocobo Riding in Mysidia

Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide story expansion is out now, and unlike the game’s first DLC, Echoes of the Fallen, this one adds the all-new region of Mysidia to explore. That’s great, but as you’re exploring you may notice something – you can’t ride your trusty Chocobo steed Ambrosia! Is it just not an option in this DLC? Don't worry, you can ride your Chocobo, but you have to complete some tasks before you’re able to do so. Here’s what you have to do…

In order to unlock Chocobo riding in Mysidia, you’re going to have to complete the “Bird of Passage” sidequest. You kick this sidequest off by taking to Manda, the girl who looks after the Chocobo stables in the village of Haven.

She’ll send you to speak to her father, who is in a nearby storefront.

Next, you’ll have to travel to Martha’s Rest. Talk to Rowan, who’s standing nearby the Obelisk. Talk to him and he’ll give you some “Mimett Gourd,” a favorite treat for Chocobo.

Now warp to Northreach and head out of town the West. Go back to the campsite you explored earlier to begin The Rising Tide campaign. You’ll find Manda’s father there. Give him the Mimett Gourd and he’ll bring Ambrosia on his boat over to Mysidia.

And there you have it! You can now gallop around Mysidia to your heart’s content! The region isn't too big, but hey, you can’t leave your feathery friend behind. It’s the principle of the matter.

Final Fantasy XVI can be played on PS5. The Rising Tide is out now and can be purchased for $20 a la carte or as part FF16’s $25 Expansion Pass, which also includes the first update, “Echoes of the Fallen.” You can check out Wccftech's other Final Fantasy XVI guides here.
