Xbox Games Showcase and a Direct for What’s Probably the Next Call of Duty Dated for June

The big “E3” announcement season (E3 is dead, but you know what I mean) is almost here, and Microsoft has officially staked out their spot. Taking place in early June, the Xbox Games Showcase will feature games from Microsoft’s full portfolio of developers, including “Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, Xbox Game Studios” and even some third-party publishers. Interestingly, like last year with Starfield, this will be a “double feature” with a main showcase, and a “Direct” which will dive deeper on a specific game.

“Mark your calendars! The Xbox Games Showcase will be livestreamed on June 9, 2024, starting at 10am PT. You’ll be able to enjoy both of our June 9 livestreams live through a variety of streaming outlets, and in over 30 languages.

Like our double-feature last year with Starfield Direct, immediately following the Showcase we’ll be airing a special deep-dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise. We can’t say much, so for now we’ll call it the Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct. This will also be our first Showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners.”

Unlike last year, Microsoft is playing coy with what game the second showcase will be dedicated to, but it isn’t hard to guess. Looking at the redacted publisher logo in the art above, that definitely looks like a bit of the “A” from Activision. The image also looks very much like something that might represent one of the factions in Call of Duty. Now that Call of Duty is under the Microsoft umbrella it makes sense for Microsoft to make it a big part of their June showcase, and perhaps attract attention to some of their other announcement in the process.
