Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 May Be Four Years Away

While the second installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, Rebirth, is mere days from launching on PlayStation 5, fans are already wondering about the status of the next game in the remake project, Part 3.

According to Square Enix Director Naoki Hamaguchi, who was recently featured in an interview with French YouTuber Julien Chieze, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is pretty much where Rebirth was when the first installment was about to launch.

Of course, I cannot tell you what stage we are at, but we have already made progress on the script and we are thinking about certain developments. When we got to the end of the development for Remake, we started talking about a sequel with writer [Kazushige] Nojima-san and I think we can say that we are in the same situation today.

As you know, it took Square Enix nearly four years between the first and second entries in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. As such, it can be surmised that a similar amount of time will be required before we see the final installment, thus translating to a rough release window of 2028.

Of course, we don't know exactly whether remaking the final stretch of Final Fantasy VII will take just as long as Rebirth. The second installment that's about to be released was notable due to its much wider scope required by the story, leading to a massive 100-hundred-hour game with open world-like zones. The third game could be a bit narrower, which might make for a slightly quicker development.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on February 29 for PlayStation 5. It will be exclusive to Sony's consoles until at least May 29; a PC version is likely coming not too far in the future, as it did for the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
