Final Fantasy 9 Remake Development is “Very Far Along”, Leaker Claims; Said to be a Multi-platform Title

Development on the rumored Final Fantasy 9 Remake is progressing well, and Square Enix might very well release the game before April 2025.

At least, that's what known SEGA/Atlus leaker 'Midori' said on X some hours ago. Last month, after various claims from other leakers, 'Midori' said that the remake is indeed happening. No additional details were shared last month, but the leaker (known for his SEGA/Atlus leaks), has now provided more information about the remake. According to 'Midori', the remake was initially outsourced to a different development, but development has shifted as publisher Square Enix wasn't satisfied. Although the leaker can't confirm a release date for the remake, development on the title is now "very far along", and could be released before the end of Square Enix's current fiscal year (which runs through March 31, 2025).

"According to conversations, the title was originally outsourced to another developer, but SQEX was not satisfied and development shifted", the leaker wrote on X.

'Midori' added, "Development of this title is now very far along, but I do not have any firm information on the scope of this title or a firm release period right now. This title could release before the end of this fiscal year, but I am not certain right now."

While it's possible that Final Fantasy 9 Remake, which is said to be released as a multi-platform title, will be present at the Xbox Showcase this Sunday, the leaker advises to keep expectations in check as he isn't sure that this is the case.

"There are plans for new information on some SQEX titles at the Xbox Showcase. I don’t know if this title will be at the showcase. So it is good to keep expectations low right now. And this is a title that is currently planned for release on multiple platforms", the leaker also said on X. Personally, we would love to see a remake of 2000's Final Fantasy 9, which was released for the original
