Fallout: London Dev Comments on Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update, Says They Felt ‘Blindsided’

The project lead on the Fallout: London mod voiced the team's feelings of being «blindsided» by Bethesda's announcement of the Fallout 4 next-gen update. The project lead's comments shed light on the challenges faced by the Fallout: London developer team caused by a lack of clear communication with the Fallout 4 developer.

Fallout 4 is an open-world action RPG by Bethesda set in a post-apocalyptic United States, focusing on the Sole Survivor's journey in the Commonwealth. On the other hand, Fallout: London is an upcoming total conversion mod for Fallout 4, shifting the setting to a post-apocalyptic rendition of London in 2237, introducing a new story with factions vying for control. While Fallout 4 is an official game by Bethesda, Fallout: London is a fan-made mod that alters the game's setting, story, and gameplay mechanics, providing players with a fresh experience within the Fallout universe.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Dean Carter, project lead on the Fallout: London mod made by Team Folon, voiced the studio's feelings of being «blindsided» by Bethesda's announcement of the huge Fallout 4 update set to release on April 25. Fallout: London was scheduled for release on April 23, which is why Carter expressed frustration over the lack of communication from Bethesda regarding the timing of their update. He mentioned that the sudden announcement caught the team off guard, especially considering the effort and dedication they've poured into the mod over the past four years. «So that has, for lack of a better term, sort of screwed us over, somewhat,” Carter said.

Carter emphasized that Team Folon's work is driven by a desire to create content for the fans, and the lack of communication from Bethesda has led to confusion and backlash within the community. Despite Carter's efforts to steer fans away from blaming Bethesda directly, the situation has created tension and raised questions about industry collaboration and transparency.
