Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Has Given the Game an Important Boost

Fallout 4’s average load times have decreased considerably on the PS5 after the game’s next-gen patch. The recent Fallout 4 patch has been controversial since its release, but it’s not without its perks for current-gen gamers, as shown by this change.

Released last week, the Fallout 4 next-gen update was eagerly expected by the game’s community, as Bethesda promised several improvements to the post-apocalyptic open-world title. Some of the changes introduced in the update include Widescreen and Ultra-Widescreen support for PC players, new armors, weapon bundles, several bug fixes, and Performance and Quality modes for consoles, as well as support for higher resolutions.

Now, gamers who play Fallout 4 on PS5 have been discovering another perk of the update: the loading times have been greatly reduced. In a chart shared by OliveOcelot on r/PlaystationPlus, it’s possible to see that load times for Fallout 4 were around 0:40 previously when using the PS4 version of the game on a PS5, and can be as quick as 0:15 in the PS5 release after the update. This was quite an improvement, as speed times have more than doubled.

In the post’s comments, many gamers talked about how they didn’t understand why some gamers hated the update, as their experience has greatly improved. These opinions have a stark contrast with other opinions regarding the new update, though. Players from several platforms, including PS5, have been complaining constantly about the new update or finding new bugs. For instance, a player recently discovered that some of Fallout 4’s new weapons were shooting exclamation points due to a hilarious glitch.

The Steam Deck version of Fallout 4 specifically had a major problem, too. Due to the removal of the game’s launcher, the new update prevented Fallout 4 players from changing graphics on Steam Deck.
