Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree Is Missing One Key Feature To Improve Its Story

Since first dropped in February 2022, players have been picking apart pieces of lore from the various cutscenes and context clues from the Lands Between. FromSoftware games have never been particularly forthcoming with the world's lore, encouraging players to explore the world and piece together the story as they go instead of guiding them along a linear narrative. While this has given the game hours of replayability (and plenty to discuss online), there are some questions players have about the various enemies and icons scattered throughout the game.

When the DLC was announced for, not only were players particularly excited about the prospect of new bosses and an entirely new section of the map to explore,but many expected some of their unanswered questions to be resolved. Unfortunately, despite there being nearly 80 new boss fights (many of them particularly difficult to get through), there was only a small fraction that offered more pieces of lore.

One enemy found in Shadow of the Erdtree has enough strength to be a boss, but instead it is treated like a regular foe for the Tarnished.

For starters, those entering the DLC area for the first time aren't greeted with a cutscene to introduce the new area or offer any new pieces of lore to dig into. Instead, players are teleported to the new area, giving a very anticlimactic entrance (that's drawn plenty of ire on social media).

Even with the bosses that are central to the world's evolving lore, players found that there was little lead-up to their fights, throwing players into major moments with little warning. "" Reddit user Khaoticol echoed in a post on Reddit.

There are 15 bosses who drop remembrances when defeated in, but while most of those with similar loot received cutscenes in the base game, only four of them in the DLC did.
