While attention turns to ’s upcoming DLC, a detail hiding in plain sight in the base game may have already revealed an important part of ’s lore. is full of hidden lore, but it can sometimes be difficult to recognize the full significance of the information scattered across The Lands Between. This can, and apparently has, led to some notable facts effectively blending in with more generic flavor text.

The Candletree Wooden Shield bears the emblem of what appears to be a combination of candelabra and tree, and its description reveals that the design is forbidden. This is because the symbol is believed to an ominous phrase which has until now nevertheless gone largely unremarked on. However, with ’s director hinting at an undiscovered secret, this simple shield’s story may actually be something remarkably complex.

When examined in detail, it quickly becomes clear that candles and candelabras are a recurring theme in.
