Destiny 2 is Revamping Shaders, But Players Aren't Sure How to Feel About It

Shaders in Destiny 2 have always provided one of the main methods for armor and weapon customization, and Bungie have recently confirmed that some useful changes will be coming with the game's upcoming Final Shape expansion in the interest of improving shaders' color accuracy in the UI. Though quite a few fans of Destiny 2 have been hoping for a change like this for years due to some shaders poorly communicating the colors and textures that they apply, previews of the upcoming UI changes have made experienced fans realize that they may need to refamiliarize themselves with their favorite shaders following the DLC's release.

This won't be the first time Destiny 2's vast array of shaders has seen a bit of a revamp, as shader UI icons were even simpler in the original Destiny. Regardless, the ability to apply colored shaders to gear has remained a vital aspect of customization throughout the entire Destiny series, as it allows Guardians to fine-tune the appearance of their own armor and weapons. Destiny 2 offers an incredibly long list of unique shaders, and though some of them can be tricky to acquire due to certain vendors selling random selections of shaders each week, others are impossible to obtain in the present day.

In the most recent This Week In Destiny blog post, Destiny 2 developer Bungie revealed that shader icons will be seeing something of an overhaul with The Final Shape expansion's release in June. These tweaks involve a complete rework of shader icons, upgrading them to accommodate the total six different colors that contribute to each shader while also making it more apparent which colors dominate any given shader. Though the overall appearances and colors of every existing shader will remain totally unchanged, the new and improved icons have inspired mixed feelings among Destiny 2 fashion enthusiasts, as the icons for existing shaders will have to be entirely re-learned.
