Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Floppy Edition Announced on April Fool’s Day

Cyberpunk 2077 has amused many fans by announcing a limited Floppy Edition on the occasion of April Fool's Day. With this move, Cyberpunk 2077 joins a host of other games that follow the tradition of pranking their fanbase every year on April 1.

Seeing outlandish game announcements on April Fool's Day is nothing new for the fans. This practice is something that developers have grown a knack for, resulting in ridiculous yet memorable moments for players, such as that one time when Among Us devs added a Horse Mode for a limited time. On its announcement page, the developer has described the Floppy Edition as offering a «retrofuturistic experience» and a nod to the days when PC game installation used to be a ritual in itself. Moving on, the post jokingly reveals that the game on floppy would translate into 97,619 3.5-inch diskettes and that it would take «2 months of non-stop diskette-swapping» for installation. Lastly, the post also includes a link to an April Fool's message disguised as a wishlist link.

On Cyberpunk 2077's official Twitter, fans got on with the prank, which led to a string of hilarious conversations. When a user said they wanted this for their collection, the official account replied that they would need to fill the entirety of the room, «from the floor to the ceiling,» to house the Floppy Edition of Cyberpunk 2077. Another user joked, «Knowing my luck [sic] I'd have a failed sector on disk 93538.» The level of developer-fan interaction over social media also resembled a different April Fool's Day post made by the official Pokemon GO handle for a fake update on their game.

Outside the prank, developer CDPR has been hard at work, trying to restore the hype around
