Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Modders Add Sonic the Hedgehog-Inspired Maps

Some creative modders of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk have added custom levels inspired by popular Sonic the Hedgehog games. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a skateboarding indie action platformer game by Team Reptile that was released on August 18, 2023. In it, players control a young member of a gang, Red of the Bomb Rush Crew, as they use inline skates and other extreme sports equipment to travel the city of New Amsterdam, spray-painting the city and claiming territory control over rival gangs. Players can get around the city by skateboarding and rail-grinding around the area.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is inspired by Sega's Jet Set Radio games, with fans of the latter franchise treating Bomb Rush Cyberfunk as a spiritual successor. This can be seen with the cel-shaded anime art style, anti-establishment and punk-rock vibe, and graffiti-based gameplay. There is also an overlap of fans between Jet Set Radio and Sonic the Hedgehog, as both are IPs owned by Sega. This leads to the two series gelling quite well together, which can be part of the inspiration for bringing some Sonic levels into Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

These mods were showcased by Devil Artemis on Twitter, with two different videos that had levels from Sonic Heroes and Sonic Riders. The first showcase was a map made by SBRGrandChamps, which added the Grand Metropolis level from Sonic Heroes as a playable map. He played this level using a custom Bomb Rush Cyberfunk-styled Sonic, wearing Beat's clothes from Jet Set Radio. The map is faithfully recreated in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, where players can run around, grind on parts of the terrain, and leap around the map. It appears some parts of the map were taken out, possibly due to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk only rendering the most necessary parts of the original level.

Devil Artemis posted another clip, this level being the first track of the multiplayer airboard Sonic racing game spin-off, Sonic Riders' Metal City, made by KyoGS. Instead of the skates, Devil Artemis' gameplay clip has Sonic riding
