Baldur's Gate 3 Devs Dealing With Threats and Toxicity

Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios, has spoken out about abusive threats from Baldur's Gate 3 players amid the ongoing wait for mod tools. Some Baldur's Gate 3fans have been left frustrated after recent patches, but some have taken their frustrations too far.

Like many games released on PC, Baldur's Gate 3 has amazing mods that can transform the game into an entirely new experience. Right now, though, the game lacks any official modding tools from Larian Studios. This means that any mods created for the game are done so through methods not officially supported by the studio, which can cause some instability for ongoing playthroughs. These issues have been exacerbated in recent weeks thanks to Patch 6 for Baldur's Gate 3, as well as the subsequent Hotfixes 18 and 19. However, some in the community have unfortunately channeled their frustration toward the individual developers.

Michael Douse at Larian Studios addressed the threats from players about Baldur's Gate 3's modding tools in a long thread on Twitter, claiming that «Threats & toxicity against our devs & community teams will only harm the conversation.» He also reiterated that the current focus of Larian Studios «is to patch the game while working on future mod support.» It's important for players to remember that while Baldur's Gate 3 is a fantastic game, the developers still want to improve it with updates. Patches are inevitable as Larian looks to polish the RPG, and it would be unfortunate for the developer to need to pull back from its close relationship with the community, thanks to abuse from some.
