Apple’s iPhone 16 Models Finally Get Upgraded Charging Speeds Of Up To 45W Using A Wired Connection; 50 Percent Faster Than The iPhone 15 Lineup

The iPhone range has always lagged behind the competition in battery charging speeds, and we cannot confirm whether Apple introduced this limitation to increase longevity or if it did so because it adopts the newest standards slower than the rest of the industry. Fortunately, where the iPhone 16 family is involved, it is possible that we see wired charging speeds supported up to 45W, thanks to the latest certification leak.

Last year’s iPhone 15 series could not even touch 30W, iPhone 16 finally competes with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 models in this regard

A regulatory body called China Quality Certification Centre revealed the charging specifications for the newly announced iPhone 16 series. Through the USB-C port, all models can charge up to 45W, making it the first time that Apple has introduced support. The images below show that the devices were tested in the 5-15 volts range while supplying a current of 3 amps, reaching up to 45 watts. Comparing the latest charging speeds with last year’s iPhone 15 models, the iPhone 16 family can be topped up 50 percent faster.

To remind you, if you currently own an iPhone 15 model, you will notice that even with a high-quality charger being used, you would not cross 29W of wattage. The pleasant surprise is that the latest charging speeds are slightly higher than what previous rumors suggested. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max were earlier said to support up to 40W of fast charging using a wired connection and up to 20W using a compatible MagSafe wireless charger.

It is strange that Apple never mentioned this specification during the announcement, especially given its history of gimping its handsets’ capabilities to accept more watts. Apple might have felt that the competition is too far ahead in this category for it to even mention its iPhone 16 series
