Understanding the game’s different factions and the agents available in them can be useful for navigating which characters are in the game.

Players can also be forgiven for skipping many of ’s cutscenes and story sections. The game is pretty heavily frontloaded with exposition before the player even gets to start engaging with any actual gameplay. For anyone who decides to skip this content just to get to the action, but later decides they want some context for what they’re doing, they may need a quick rundown of the game’s different factions and which characters belong where.

Several characters in Zenless Zone Zero can be gained for free, but you have to meet certain requirements or complete various goals to get them.

The Cunning Hares, officially named Gentle House, is the first faction of characters that players meet in. They are a group of mercenaries who take on jobs related to Hollows — a type of supernatural disaster that spawns the game’s main enemies. The group earned their nickname thanks to their founder, Nicole, who is known to be especially clever. Despite being smart on the battlefield, Nicole isn’t too wise with her money, and the Hares often struggle with debt.

Other members of the Cunning Hares include Billy Kid, an eccentric cyborg who is obsessed with a TV show called Starlight Knight, and Anby Demara a young and talented fighter who was taken in by Nicole. Nicole also has an unhealthy relationship with media, often having trouble differentiating between what she sees in movies and real life. The final member (as of now) is Nekomata, a literal cat girl who has a special love for mackerel.
