2K announces Mafia: The Old Country for release in 2025

2K has announced the next entry in its Mafia series.

Mafia: The Old Country will be released in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam.

The game, which is set during the origins of the Sicilian mafia, is in development at 2K’s Hangar 13 studio.

Mafia: The Old Country was announced with a teaser trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday.

“Fight to survive in this dangerous and unforgiving era, with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for,” reads the description accompanying the reveal trailer.

Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes said: “What you just saw is the first early look at Mafia: The Old Country, a thrilling story set in 1900s Sicily during the origins of the Mafia.

“We’re going back to the roots of what fans love about the Mafia franchise, crafting a deep linear narrative, with that classic mob movie feeling.”

Hangar 13 confirmed in August 2022 that a new Mafia game was in development.

“While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories,” its general manager, Roman Hladík, said at the time.

Earlier that year, it was claimed that Hangar 13 was working on a prequel set before the events of the Mafia trilogy.

The last new entry in the series, Mafia 3, was released to mixed reviews in 2016. A Mafia: Definitive Edition release saw the original 2002 game remade for modern consoles.
