Until Dawn remake studio announces ‘significant’ layoffs

The studio behind the PS5 and PC version of Until Dawn has announced significant restructuring ahead of the game’s release.

In a statement, Woking, UK-based Ballistic Moon said it was making cuts to “secure the future” of the studio, which remains focused on supporting Until Dawn’s launch in October.

The was founded in 2020 by Duncan Kershaw, Neil McEwan and Chris Lamb, who all previously worked together at Supermassive Games, the developer behind 2015’s Until Dawn for PS4.

“As the games industry continues to face complex challenges, we at Ballistic Moon are confronted with some difficult realities,” the studio said in a statement published on LinkedIn.

“It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that we must make the tough decision to significantly scale down our team to secure the future of our studio. This comes after our development of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC.

“We want to express our sincere gratitude to every team member for their hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to Ballistic Moon,” it continued.

“Saying goodbye to such a talented and passionate group of people is incredibly difficult, and we are profoundly sorry for the impact this restructuring will have on our employees and their families.

“As we navigate this transition, Ballistic Moon remains focused on supporting the launch of Until Dawn and is committed to exploring new opportunities and collaborations for the future.”

Until Dawn will be released for PS5 and PC on October 4, 2024. A feature film based on Until Dawn, which is being helmed by Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation and Shazam director David F. Sandberg, started shooting last month.

“I’ve been longing to do horror again after Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, and this film explores the many great subgenres of horror to create the most terrifying experience possible,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Capturing the essence of the game but with new characters, it serves as a great stand-alone introduction to the world for the newcomer as well
