XDefiant Reportedly Getting a New Test This Friday to Lock in Launch Date

Ubisoft's XDefiant seemed nearly ready to launch six months ago, but the game received a last-minute delay that left many fans puzzled. At the time, Executive Producer Mark Rubin explained:

From this feedback, we saw that the majority of people had a great time and saw an improvement over previous tests, BUT...that wasn't the case for everyone. So, we've spent the last week digging through the data that we collected and have identified some things that brought us to the decision to take some extra time to fix or improve the experience for everyone.

I know it's a bummer that we are moving the date, especially since we seemed so close, and that for many the game is great and they can't wait to play, but I'd rather ship a game that is better for everyone. Our intent for XDefiant is to be something that players can return to for many years and to do that we have to build this game WITH the community.

It seems like the time for waiting may be nearly over, though. Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson reports that a new Server Test Session is scheduled to go live on Friday, April 19, and probably run for the entire weekend. The report adds that the feedback from this new test will allow Ubisoft San Francisco to finally settle on a launch date for XDefiant.

That doesn't mean we'll know right away, of course. It is likely Ubisoft will wait until the Ubisoft Forward live event slated to air on June 10 from Los Angeles to make any release announcements. XDefiant might even be shadow-dropped during the conference, though that's just speculation at this point.

The free-to-play first-person shooter game will be available to play on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and Amazon's Luna cloud gaming service.
