Xbox is bringing Game Pass Ultimate cloud streaming to Amazon Fire TV devices

Xbox and Amazon are teaming up to bring Game Pass Ultimate streaming to Amazon Fire TV devices.

As announced on the officialXbox Wire blog, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in over 25 countries will soon be able to download an Xbox app on Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max devices.

Players with either of these devices and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller will be able to access the Xbox streaming library through an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.

Players will have to install and launch the Xbox app from their Fire TV device, sign in with their Microsoft account, sign up for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate if they havem’t already and connect their controller to play.

Xbox notes that the Bluetooth controller required doesn’t have to be an official Xbox controller.  Players who have a PlayStation DualSense or DualShock 4 controller will be able to use that instead.

In theory, this means people with a compatible controller and fast enough internet access will be able to play Series X/S games for the price of a Fire TV Stick 4K ($49.99) and a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, rather than purchasing an Xbox Series console.

“Over the past several years, we have been on a journey to deliver cloud gaming to more devices and to more people around the globe,” Xbox corporate vice president of Xbox experiences and platforms engineering Ashley McKissick said.

“We are excited to add Fire TV to our growing family of cloud gaming devices and eager to welcome new players into this experience.”
