Upcoming Steam Game Has You Protect Your IRL Hometown From Zombie Hordes

Steam may be filled with zombie survival games but is putting a unique spin on the genre by placing players in a digital recreation of their hometown. The undead have risen in cities around the world, but generally speaking, if players aren't in the United States or the United Kingdom, there's a good chance their neighborhood has yet to be represented. Fortunately, wants to prove that surviving a zombie outbreak is possible anywhere in the world.

Per 's Steam page, the game tasks players with rebuilding society in the aftermath of a devastating apocalypse. This has been brought about by «The Mad Virus,» which turns humans into rabid, flesh-eating monsters.

The real hook is that uses data pulled from OpenStreetMap, a "" to digitally recreate any city or location right down to specific buildings and street names. All players need to do is search for a specific town and download the available map to start setting up their own titular infection-free zone. Screenshots also suggest that some maps of major US cities are also included in the game as default options.

Developer Jutsu Games further emphasized that the inclusion of real-world locations isn't merely an aesthetic addition to the game as players will need to leverage their knowledge of their surroundings to figure out the best places to scavenge, defend, and maintain to survive hordes of zombies. To overcome the unlikely odds, players will need to use melee weapons, firearms, vehicles, barricades, and even lights to prevent the undead from storming through the gates. Unfortunately, it's not just zombies that pose a threat as other humans desperate for a place to call their own will also pose a challenge and attempt to take over any occupied base that might be useful.
