Undead Labs Ends Development Support for State of Decay 2, Shifts Focus to State of Decay 3

In an update published to the game’s official website, Undead Labs have announced the end of content updates for State of Decay 2.

The team has released almost 40 updates since State of Decay 2 released in May of 2018, adding new modes, maps, story content, characters, weapons, vehicles, cosmetics, and more. Later this year, Update 38 will be rolled out as the game’s final update, implementing a number of fixes for pain points that have long plagued players, make quality of life improvements, and unlock all previously gated seasonal content, including the Wizard Van and Winter outfits.

The included FAQ notes that the team is not sunsetting the game, so it will continue to be available to players on all of its existing platforms and GamePass. Bounties will also continue to cycle uninterrupted.

Unsurprisingly, the team made this move to put its full focus on the game’s sequel, State of Decay 3, which got its first new trailer in four years at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase back in June. That trailer didn’t give us much more to work with than we already had, but it served as a sign of life, and this latest move from Undead Labs validates the fact that work on the game is still underway.
