Ubisoft says it’s ‘actively working’ on Driver franchise projects

Plans for a live-action series based on Ubisoft franchise Driver have been shelved, the company has confirmed.

However, the company has claimed it’s still planning projects related to the series, despite no major game release in over a decade.

Ubisoft announced back in 2021 that it had partnered with upstart streaming service Binge for the series. However, the company told Game File on Friday that it’s now not moving ahead with the company.

The discovery was made after Ubisoft disclosed that one of its movie/video-related subsidiaries, Hotrod Tanner LLC – named after the protagonist for the Driver series – was dissolved in January.

“We are no longer moving forward with our partnership with Binge for a Driver series,” a Ubisoft spokesperson told the publication.

There hasn’t been a new mainline entry in the Driver video game series since 2011’s Driver: San Francisco. However, Ubisoft told Game File it still has plans for the series despite the live-action roadblock.

“We are actively working on other exciting projects related to the franchise and can’t wait to share more information in the future,” the rep said

Earlier this month, Ubisoft confirmed that production has begun on a Watch Dogs movie, starring Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me) and Tom Blyth (Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), and directed by Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark).
