Zenless Zone Zero Review: Does Hoyoverse's Anime Action RPG Live Up to the Hype?

Hoyoverserecently released their latest entrant into the pantheon of prolific Anime-style games withZenless Zone Zero on July 4th, 2024. The nostalgia-inducing, story-driven gacha hero collector has taken the tried-and-true Hoyoverse monetization model and transitioned it to a fast-paced fighter. Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) has many similarities to other popular Hoyoverse titles, but will the differences be good enough for it to stand on its own?

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail Review - A Fresh Adventure in the FFXIV Universe

Since its announcement last summer, Dawntrail promised a change of pace from the massive, decade-long story of Final Fantasy 14. It was advertised as a summer vacation release, right at the start of the real-life season for most of the world—a perfect way to get away, explore new lands, and have some fun.

The First Descendant Review: An Exciting Shooter Held Back By its Localization and Monetization

When I got my hands on The First Descendant at Summer Game Fest 2024, I really wasn’t sure what to think. I had played a mission on my own, using a character that had a more support-focused role, and it all felt a little generic. However, thefull release of The First Descendant surprised me. It was fun, the movement was fantastic, and the characters had their own kind of appeal, be it through their design or kits. That said, it does come with some issues that have plagued other Korean MMOs, which holds The First Descendant back from being something truly great.

Tarisland Review: Engaging Boss Fights, but Is the Story Worth It?

I’ve been playing Tarisland for several weeks, running through the fantasy MMORPG with a Mage, a Paladin, and a Phantom Necro. All three are maxed out now in the best gear available at the time of writing, so I’m here to report back on the mid to late game.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Review

After last year’s excellent Necrom expansion, I was a bit worried that this year’s Elder Scrolls Online chapter, Gold Road, would be a step backwards. I have always maintained that The Elder Scrolls series is at its best when it’s leaning into the weird, and Necrom certainly does this. Gold Road benefits, then, from the fact that it is a continuation of the story that we experienced helping the Prince of Fates.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic Review

It’s been a month since the Cataclysm Classic launched, so it’s finally time to take stock and give it a score. This review comes in two parts; if anyone missed the Review In Progress, please give that a quick read first, as I won’t be rehashing most of what was covered there. For the second installment of this review, I will focus on my experiences getting to max level, gearing for raids, and the various issues I’ve encountered along the way.

Wuthering Waves Review - mmorpg.com

Wuthering Waves Review

It’s hard to blame developers and publishers for wanting to chase hot gaming trends. In theory it makes sense to replicate what’s popular at any given time. Most of the hard work is already done and developers just need to put their own spin on it. However, there’s a reason only a handful of games dominate certain genres; the graveyards full of MOBAs and Hero Shooters can attest to this. Unfortunately, Wuthering Waves seems poised to follow this trend with its drip-fed content, dreadfully boring story, and lackluster endgame in an attempt to capitalize on the success of Genshin Impact.

Side Quests: Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Review - mmorpg.com

Side Quests: Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Review

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is a harrowing tale filled with uncomfortable tension, deep and authentic emotion, and masterful performances heightened by incredible visuals and top-notch audio design. It's also not much of a «game,» as the pace at times is off-puttingly slow and the core gameplay loop becomes predictable – and that's despite the game being about six hours in length all told. Fittingly, I'm having an intense internal argument about Senua's Saga, and both sides have a compelling argument.
