One of the items affected by these technical issues is the Shipbreaker's Cutter, a lightweight weapon with a unique skin.

A player's inventory can be constantly cluttered by the weapons, armor, resources, and aid items scattered throughout the Settled Systems. Because of this, it can be easy to mis-click and accidentally sell a weapon which is actively used. Luckily, the game has a built-in safety feature where 's vendors will allow sold items to be repurchased for the sale price. Unfortunately, buyback does not apply to the Shipbreaker's Cutter.

The Shipbreaker's Cutter is currently subject to a bug where itcannot be repurchased if it is sold. The weapon will appear in the vendor's inventory in the Buyback menu, but buying it will prove ineffective. Instead, the game will still detract credits from the player without adding the Shipbreaker's Cutter to the player's inventory.

Until Bethesda is able to fix this issue, there are a few ways to lower the risk of accidentally selling this unique weapon. While the player could normally rename the weapon to put it at the bottom of the weapon list to avoid selling it, it is also subject to a bug where it cannot be renamed. One alternative method is to favorite the item. While this will not prevent it from being sold outright, it will add a visual indicator as a warning. There is also the safer, but more tedious, option of quicksaving before selling weapons.
