The Sea of Thieves beta has launched on PS5

Rare has launched the Sea of Thieves closed beta on PlayStation 5.

Running until 9am UTC on April 15, the beta is available to players who have pre-ordered any version of the game ahead of its release later this month.

Beta participants will be able to earn Renown, currency and cosmetic rewards as part of Season 11’s seasonal progression track, which can be carried over to the full game.

They will also receive 10 levels of Renown towards their Season 12 seasonal progression track.

Participants won’t be able to access in-game shop the Pirate Emporium.

While Trophies will be disabled during the beta, “progress towards them will be tracked, carried over and unlocked appropriately upon launch of the retail version”, according to an FAQ.

5 Closed Beta is currently experiencing a high volume of new players, which may result in longer waiting times than normal as pirates enter the Sea of Thieves. Thanks for your patience, everyone! https://t.co/4Djsg7lkwn

In February, Microsoft delivered an Xbox business update which confirmed reports that it’s planning to bring more first-party games to PlayStation and/or Switch, in the form of Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves and Grounded.

Sea of Thieves will be released for PS5 on April 30. It will feature cross-play support across consoles and PC.
