The Future of Halo Will Be Built in Unreal Engine, Halo Developer 343 Industries Rebrands to Halo Studios

343 Industries, the Microsoft owned developer of the iconic Halo shooter series, is rebranding as Halo Studios and will be moving to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine going forward.

The developer made the announcement via a new video at this year’s Halo World Championships this past weekend and also showed off ‘Project Foundry,’ giving Halo fans a look at what a Halo game can look like when built in Epic’s Unreal Engine. Halo Studios announced it was working on several new games as part of the seven minute video.

It’s a big move for the studio, which faced issues developing Halo Infinite using the series’ long running Slipspace Engine. Some of the engine’s tools are almost a quarter century old at this point. With the team now looking ahead past Halo Infinite to the series’ future, it felt it was a good opportunity to switch engines as many aspects of Unreal that Halo Studios would like to leverage would have taken the team a ton of time and effort to recreate in Slipspace.

Halo Infinite launched back in 2021 and immediately ran into issues with controversies surrounding its in game customization, technical issues, rampant cheating, a lack of content and more.
