Summer Game Fest Kickoff Locks Down a June Date, Tickets Go on Sale in May

We knew it was coming, particularly considering the ultimate demise of E3, but today Geoff Keighley announced when this year’s big Summer Game Fest kickoff show will take place. This year’s event will be livestreamed to the world on June 7 and once again emanate from the Los Angeles' YouTube Theater. If you’d like to take in the festivities in person, public ticket sales will begin on May 7. In the meantime, you can sign up for alerts at the Summer Game Fest website.

In addition to the regular on-stage Summer Game Fest showcase, which will run 2 hours and include the usual array of “world premieres” and hype, there will also be another “Day of the Devs” livestream afterward that will dive more deeply into a dozen-plus games. An in-person, invite-only event to go hands-on with some of the SGF titles will also take place from June 8 to June 10.

As for what the big Summer Game Fest show might bring, well, that’s up in the air. Last year, we got the reveal of Mortal Kombat 1, first gameplay for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Alan Wake 2, and fresh looks at the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Spider-Man 2. Right now, the back half of 2024 looks pretty barren and, of course, those rumors of a new Switch successor continue to rage, so publishers will potentially have a lot of things to show at Summer Game Fest.

The Summer Game Fest kickoff show will be livestreamed on YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms at 2pm PT on June 7 (which is a Friday this year). What do you think? Will you be tuning in? What do you hope to see? I’ve mostly got Nintendo on my brain at the moment, although I wouldn’t mind getting an official peek at Wolverine and maybe a better idea of what Kojima’s horror game OD looks like in action.
