Sucker Punch is planning ‘other spin-offs’ beyond Ghost of Yotei

Sucker Punch is planning other spin-off projects beyond its newly announced Ghost of Tsushima follow-up, Ghost of Yotei.

That’s according to aNew York Times interview with Ghost of Yotei creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell.

The pair, who will once again serve as creative directors on the project, spoke to the publication about the newly announced game, which is set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima.

The article also notes that the annoucement of Ghost of Yotei retrospectively changes Ghost of Tsushima from a standalone game to the start of a franchise, which it says “will include at least one movie and other spin-offs”.

They visited the Shiretoko National Park on the northeastern tip of Hokkaido, during which Fox recorded sounds for his audio team.

“Inside the park, you have to watch a video telling you about the dangers of bears,” Fox said. “Being in this incredibly beautiful park with jagged cliffs and water, yet all the time being aware there were dangerous bears, was electrifying. We strive to bring that into the video game – that feeling of danger.”

Ghost of Yotei is planned for release in 2025.

In an article on the PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch communications manager Andrew Goldfarb said the game provided “a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore”.

“While we aren’t diving into story specifics yet today, we can reveal that Atsu’s journey takes place in 1603, more than 300
