Stardew Valley’s long-awaited 1.6 update hits PC in March

Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone has announced that the game’s long-awaited 1.6 update will be released for PC next month.

“It’s the 8th anniversary of Stardew Valley,” he said in a post on X. “Thank you for all the support over the years!

“Today I am announcing the PC Release date for the 1.6 update: –March 19th–. Console & Mobile will follow as soon as possible.”

The country-life RPG’s sixth major post release update will include a big new festival, two new mini-festivals, fresh late-game content, new items and crafting recipes, 100+ new lines of dialogue, winter outfits for villagers, and support for 8-player multiplayer on PC.

Having first announced the update in 2022, Barone said in January that it was nearing completion.

“1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned,” he said. “I’m done adding major new content to it now, though, and it’s in a bug-fixing and polishing phase until it’s ready for release. Thx for your patience. It’ll be fun to see everyone play it!”

Originally, 1.6 was intended to be a “mostly modding-focused update” with a minimal amount of new game content, however it was confirmed last year that its scope had expanded.

Stardew Valley was released for PC in February 2016. As of this month, it has sold over 30 million copies across all platforms, with over 19 million sales on PC, according to its developer.
