Stardew Valley Fans Are Shaken To Discover A Hidden Fishing Mechanic

Fishing is one of the best ways to pass time in but many players may be shocked to know that the bobber attached to the end of the line is quite customizable. Given the sheer amount of content in, it's common to encounter fans with hundreds of hours in the game who still haven't discovered everything. While the bobber doesn't do much aside from marking the location of the hook, plenty of Farmers will likely miss the feature which allows its design to be changed.

Posting to Reddit, user Stargiv_r shared a series of screenshots that show them entering the Fish Shop by the beach and accessing a terminal on the structure's right side.

This opens up a menu simply titled «Bobber Style» which allows the Farmer to swap out their bobber with plenty of fun alternatives, including a heart, a small boat, a baseball, and even a burger. The comment section is flooded with fellow players expressing their shock at the discovery as many were completely unaware that they could change their fishing bobber.

Those who weren't aware that they could change the style of their bobber in should take comfort in the fact that it's a relatively recent addition. The feature was only added in early 2024 as a part of the expansive 1.6 Update, so users on consoles and mobile won't even have had a chance to discover it. The game doesn't do a fantastic job of explaining how to unlock new styles but the process is straightforward.

To gain new bobber styles, players simply have to catch fish. To unlock every single one in the game, 38 different fish must be caught which sounds like a lot but within an in-game year, most are accessible to even the most casual fisher. When the 1.6 Update does go live on consoles and mobile, players who've managed to catch every fish in the game will automatically gain access to every new bobber, eliminating some of the fuss.

Stardew Valley has over 60 kinds of fish, including the Walleye. Learn when and where to find the Walleye to make catching this fish easier.
