Star Wars Outlaws Fans Aren't Happy About the Game's Special Editions

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws features a $110 Gold Edition and a $130 Ultimate Edition, and some fans are not happy about what they are getting for those high prices. The more expensive editions of Star Wars Outlaws include premium benefits that have become commonplace in recent years.

Following a previous Star Wars Outlaws leak, Ubisoft recently confirmed that the action-adventure game is set to release on August 30. Ubisoft's title marks the first AAA Star Wars game not controlled by EA since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, giving fans hope that Star Wars Outlaws will move away from the more frustrating tactics employed by EA. While that could certainly still be true, it seems that fans still have to grapple with pre-order bonuses that some are already frustrated with.

Fans who pre-order Star Wars Outlaws' $110 Gold Edition receive three days of early access and a season pass that includes two post-launch story DLCs, the Jabba's Gambit mission available at launch, and the Kessel Runner Character cosmetic pack. The $130 Ultimate Edition includes all that plus two more cosmetic bundles and a digital art book. Reddit user Ketsukoni posted a thread to the Star Wars-themed subreddit Saltierthankrayt expressing their frustration at the news. Commenting fans shared similar opinions, while others said they were not surprised at Ubisoft's pre-order tactic.

Early access periods and cosmetic items have become common and expensive pre-order bonuses for AAA games, but locking an exclusive mission at launch that features an iconic character like Jabba the Hut behind a $40 season pass is understandably frustrating. As usual, users who don't want to fork over the extra money can buy Outlaws' standard $70 edition that includes the base game only. It's very likely that the season pass will eventually go on sale as a separate purchase sometime down the road, so standard edition owners willing to wait a while probably aren't out of luck.

Fans who are on the fence with pre-ordering Ubisoft's
