Square Enix Celebrates Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Launch With a Sneak Peek at Kingdom Hearts 4

To celebrate the launch of , developer and publisher Square Enix unveiled a new look at . Given that both games hail from the studio, they share a great deal of the same DNA given that several characters have appeared throughout Sora's adventures. The villainous Sephiroth, who is taking center stage in, is even available as a so-called «Super Boss» in the original .

A new new sneak peek was shared on the Square Enix X (formerly Twitter) account, providing desperate fans with a new look at the still-in-development project:

The picture itself doesn't give too much away as it simply depicts Sora standing in a flashy city center surrounded by billboards that display Sephiroth surrounded by flames. While it may look like an uncharacteristically real-life location, the developer has confirmed that Sora is trapped in a place known as Quadratum, which merely resembles modern-day Tokyo.

Several fans have pointed out the similarity between the billboard depicting Sephiroth and a real-life advertising campaign that saw the iconic villain show up on several massive screens all over the district of Shibuya. Given that Sora does technically know about Sephiroth's existence (and even defeated him in a fight depending on the players' skill level) it's a fun nod to both franchises. It also provides fans with something to chew on, given that it's been nearly two years since the fourth game was announced, and Square Enix has offered little in the way of updates.

A brief reveal trailer arrived in 2022 to celebrate 20th Anniversary, and while Sora was instantly recognizable, albeit looking slightly more realistic than in previous games, other elements left fans scratching their heads. The emphasis on a «real world» location rather than one of the franchise's various Disney worlds had some speculating that was moving away from its established roots.
