Sony’s Horizon Netflix series is reportedly not moving forward

The Netflix series based on PlayStation‘s Horizon franchise is reportedly not moving forward at the streaming giant.

The project, which was being developed by The Umbrella Academy Showrunner Steve Blackman, has reportedly stalled, according to Rolling Stone. 

This reporting was part of a wider article that accused the showrunner of “toxic, bullying, manipulative and retaliatory behavior.”

It’s unclear if the series will move forward with a different creative partner, or if the project has been entirely scrapped.

“Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world,” Blackman said at the time of the show’s announcement.

“Guerrilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vivid world of man and machine who find themselves on a collision course to oblivion.

“Their salvation comes in the form of a young female warrior named Aloy, who has no idea she’s the key to saving the world. Suffice it to say, yes, Aloy will be a main character in our story. My writing partner on this, Michelle Lovretta, and I are thrilled to be able to expand this remarkable IP into a series for all types of viewers.”

Sony is also currently working on a TV adaption of God of War with Amazon. 

Multiple Horizon video game projects are currently in development.

Lego Horizon Adventure will be released later this year for PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Guerrilla confirmed that it was planning to “expand the world of Horizon” with an online co-op project “featuring a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look”.

This followed reporting from VGC that the Dutch studio was planning an online spin-off, in addition to a planned trilogy of Horizon games.

A Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for PS5 is also reportedly in development, while it’s been claimed that Lineage and Guild Wars studio NCSoft has struck a deal with Sony to make a Horizon MMORPG.
