Sonic 3 movie social media account teases Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow

The official Sonic the Hedgehog movie account appears to be teasing that Keanu Reeves will play Shadow in the upcoming third movie.

A TikTok video posted by the official account posted a message simply saying “ForeSHADOWing”, accompanied by a clip of Sonic crossing his fingers and saying “please, please, please”.

Then he opens his eyes and sees Keanu Reeves in the movie Speed, and says: “Yes! Keanu, you are a national treasure.”

The Hollywood Reporter had already claimed back in April that the John Wick and Cyberpunk 2077 actor was going to play Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but it has still yet to be officially confirmed.

A Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie trailer is expected soon, given that the film is set to be released in cinemas on December 20.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the second highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the US. It reached the top spot prior to being overtaken by the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Commenting on the success of the movies in a VGC interview in 2022, Sonic Team’s boss said it presented a welcome challenge for the studio because it now has a broader audience to satisfy with its game releases.

“Because of the success of the movies, we’re finding that we’re reaching into this wider audience of people who maybe never played the game before, or don’t play them that much,” Takashi Iizuka said. “It’s this wider group of fans who we need to start now making content for.”
